The State Govt. introduced the scheme during the year 1978-79 . Under the Scheme, the State Govt. are sanctioning scholarships to disabled children who are studying in the normal schools from the primary level upto the University level including those pursuing technical and vocational education. The State Govt. is granting scholarships to the students at prescribed rates through the DSWOs.
Besides the above, the in-plant trainees of the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) Bhubaneswar are also getting stipend from this Department out of the Budget provision made under the head “ scholarship/ stipend to disabled students”.
Revised rates of scholarship
The rates of scholarship provided to disabled students studying in different classes have been revised w.e.f. December 2002 after a period of 24 years and the rates have gone up by three to five times of the earlier rates. The old and the revised rates of scholarship are as follows:
