Special School funded by State Govt.
Objective:
This is a State Govt. Scheme which is aimed at providing free education to visually impaired, hearing impaired and mentally challenged children in Special Schools having specially-trained teachers through Non-Govt. Organisations. The registered Non-Govt. Organizations recognized by the State Govt. to run the schools are provided grant-in-aid for running these schools.
Nos. of Schools :
The Scheme has been operating in the State since 1985. At present there are 50 Special Schools in the State which are being run by Non-Govt. Organisations/Voluntary Organisations with grant-in-aid from the State Government. Of these 50 schools, 18 schools are for visually impaired children, 21 for the hearing impaired and 11 schools are for mentally challenged children. The total student strength in these institutions is 2939, while the staff strength (both teaching and non-teaching) is 620.
Budget Provision :
A provision of Rs.90.00 lakhs under the State Plan has been made during 2006-07 for this Scheme.
Special School funded by Govt. of India
Twenty-five(25) Special Schools with 1037 students are being run in the State by NGOs/Voluntary Organizations with grant-in-aid from the Govt. of India.
