Implementation of Supreme Court Order regarding Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace

The Supreme Court in its Order dated 13 August, 1997 laid down the norms and guidelines to be followed by employers for tackling incidents of the sexual harassment of women at workplace and other institutions. The guidelines issued by the Supreme Court included setting up of a complaints redressed forum in all workplaces and amendment of the disciplinary/conduct rules governing employees by incorporating these norms and guidelines. The Department has circulated the Supreme Court’s Order to all Departments of Government, all Heads of Departments, Government PSUs and all other Government Office.

A State Level Complaints Committee for handling complaints regarding sexual harassment of women at workplace has been constituted in the Department under the chairpersonship of the senior most woman IAS Officer in the Secretariat. This Committee shall look into complaints of sexual harassment in different Government offices at the State level. In each district also, a Complaints Committee has been constituted to handle complaints/grievances of sexual harassment. The functioning of these Committees is reviewed and monitored by the W&CD Department.
